"I Am Happy" he said, when he was asked to look happy after it was announced that he had won the by election at Ely for the Liberal Party.
Clement Freud entered parliament after wining the Isle of Ely by-election with a majority of 1,470 in 1973, and, following boundary changes, went on to represent North East Cambridgeshire until 1987.
