Green-fingered gardeners of all ages from Newcastle-under-Lyme are gearing up to meet
experts from the country? largest horticultural campaign for the first time since the
Residents, community groups, children and Council staff are putting the finishing touches to
their wonderful gardening projects ahead of a borough-wide tour by Heart of England in
Bloom judges.
The special visitors are touring gardens, parks and initiatives on Wednesday, 13 July as
part of the borough? long-standing entry in the regional competition? small city category.
Newcastle is hoping to impress yet again after scooping a gold award for the 19 th
consecutive year in 2021 following a digital-based entry.
Last, but by no means least, is the stunning Queen? Gardens. The patriotic summer
planting display ?featuring begonias, salvias and cinnararias ?has a red, white and blue
theme to celebrate the Queen? Platinum Jubilee. The award winning venue is home to an
?co- Eye?project, sponsored by Bayfields Opticians, which has been made by
schoolchildren using eco-bricks. The judges will learn more about the Fred Kite memorial
and the Queen Victoria statue from local historian Jim Worgan before being treated to a
?appy and Glorious?parade, including a performance of ?even Trees for Seven
Decades? by members of New Vic Borderlines

Staff from Ball Green Primary School ran the course of the Potters Arf for a second time after headteacher Jonathan Hankey had to pull out of the original marathon due to illness.
The staff pounded the streets of Stoke-on-Trent to raise money for The Hubb Foundation who have helped the school with their HAFF project for the last 2 years.
Head Mr Hankey said "The Ball Green running club wanted to raise money for the foundation because they are a really important charity for the school and the wider community providing health and fitness activites. We'd like to thank everyone who sponsored us and raise nearly ?600 for the Hubb"
