Brief: The latest story trail (Cosmic Comic Capers) from Stoke Reads was unveiled at Westport Lake today. It's written by Joanne Owen (not local) and illustrated by Chloe Breeze (local).

A local author and illustrator Kidda Kinsey will be there on the day, reading from the story.

We've run things in the past about the Story Quest initiative, which involves getting families to follow a trail round a local park or nature spot. They use a map and follow a cast of characters, and are also asked to complete challenges along the route.

Quote: "Story Quest is a chance for families to adventure with aliens, meet local celebrities, and discover their superpowers in these 16 story trails celebrating the heritage of Stoke-on-Trent. It's a really great opportunity to get outdoors, exploring as a family" - Lois Bateman - Project Manager

A new primary school called Demetae Academy is opening in King Street, Newcastle.
It's an independent school that will offer Scandinavian-style progressive education, which is much more child-centred and based on pupils exploring things for themselves. They will still study the national curriculum, but it will be done through more creative and hands-on activities and they won't be made to do things like SATs. In classrooms, there will be beanbags as well as desks and chairs
