DFB - Turnbulls Newsagents
Subject - At one time you could see one of the famous orange and black newsagents shops on virtually every major road in Hull and across the East Riding. They are of course, the premises which were part of the Turnbulls Newsagents chain, operated by John Turnbull. We look back the shops, staff and of course at Mr. Turnbull himself, with images from the 1980s onwards.
Date - December 11th, 2003

The repainted main hal with Tim Handley (Chairman of the village Hall)
Tired of the Lockdown Blues? Then head to Hilderstone village on Saturday 31st July for its Big Village Party ?a fun-packed programme of activities for all ages to enjoy. Featuring Christ Church, Hilderstone Village Hall and The Roebuck Pub, this event is being staged by the community to say ?hank you?to their friends, neighbours and family who have supported them throughout the last 18 months and is a ?elebration of Community?
Starting at 9.30am in the Village Hall, with its monthly Arts & Crafts Market and Tea Rooms, the programme of events spans children? activities in the Village Field, Tours and a Flower Festival in Christ Church, and the official re-opening of the Village Hall by Mrs Shelley at 3pm. Cream Teas are to be served by the Women? Institute from 3.15pm and there is to be the ever-popular ?op Up?Bar and BBQ, complete with live music in the evening at the Village Hall. Music lovers are also catered for with the annual live music festival, Buck Fest, in The Roebuck from 4-9pm.Tim Handley, Chairman of the Village Hall comments: ?hroughout these challenging few months, we have seen our community at its best; neighbours and friends coming together to help the vulnerable, those self-isolating and those finding it difficult to cope with Lockdown. We wanted to celebrate this wonderful village spirit and, given that our Village Hall was originally set up to serve the community, it seemed fitting to use the event to mark the re-opening of our Village Hall following extensive refurbishment of the building and its outdoor space, including the new seating area by the pond. We are thankful to Mrs Peggy Shelley, a founding member of the Hall, for agreeing to re-open our hall at our village party event.?
