Plant-based food lovers will be in for a treat as as town hosts its first vegan festival this weekend.
Created as a celebration of cruelty-free food, it will showcase the breadth of vegan food and drink on offer, with plenty of ideas and ingredients for home-made dishes as well as options to eat on site.
The specialist outdoor event, staged by Newcastle market, will take place on The Stones, on Sunday (July 25), from 10am to 3pm.
It will be showing off a good variety of vegan sellers, offering a wide range of tasty items, all made without animal products.
Visitors can buy hot food, such as pizzas and crepes, in addition to cakes, cheeses, chocolate, pies, liqueurs, cruelty-free beauty products, dog treats, crafts, art and jewellery.
Among the stallholders are market favourites Punx Puds, based in May Bank, who are bringing their festival-edition vegan puddings including syrup sponge, chocolate cherry and a variety of fruity crumbles.
Other businesses include Dash Vegan Store, Green Flamingo Food, Soul Cheeze, The Tipsy Badger, Tropic Skincare and Vegan Poochy Treats.
Local animal sanctuary Greyhound Gap are also attending the festival to raise money and promote their work.
There will be live music and singing, fitness sessions and talks on nutrition, as well as face-painting and other fun activities for children. Parking on Newcastle Borough Council? town centre car parks is free on Sundays.
Councillor Stephen Sweeney, cabinet member for finance, town centres and growth, said: ?eganism has really hit the mainstream in recent years, so it? great to run a dedicated market where visitors can buy some great vegan products, find out the latest information and meet with like-minded people."
Gemma Miller said This has been such an amazing event I honestly could have bought triple the amount and probably sold out, but with it being the first event you don't know. I've literally had a constant queue since five past ten this morning, the vibe has been amazing
