Meir Library to reopen at new venue ?plus Summer Reading Challenge launch
VENUE: Meir Library, Meir Community Education Centre, Pickford Place, Meir, ST3 7DY
Meir Library reopens at new venue: A celebration is being held at Meir Library in Stoke-on-Trent on Monday, 19 July. This will mark the upcoming public reopening, on Wednesday, 21 July, of the service at its new venue. Meir Library moved from its old home on Sandon Road to a new location at Meir Community Education Centre, Pickford Place. The Lord Mayor will attend the celebration and make an opening speech. A ribbon will be cut and children from the nearby Ducklings Opportunity Group nursery will attend to take a look inside the new location.
To celebrate the opening, librarian Amy Capewell will also host a Singing Bears session at Meir Library just after 10.15am, where children from the nursery will enjoy songs and rhymes together.
The new location at Meir Community Education Centre offers greater access for residents and more opportunities for the library to work with other local services, companies and community groups. It means the team can work on even more exciting opportunities for people who live, work and learn in the area. For example, the space in the venue? shared hall has already allowed staff to plan larger theatre-style event an activities during the summer. The site, which has been redecorated, also has fantastic facilities including an improved, dedicated children? area, self-service technology and PC use. The extra parking at the centre will also make it easier for residents to visit. More information on Meir Library below.
Summer Reading Challenge: Stoke-on-Trent Libraries is launching its participation in the annual Summer Reading Challenge. The theme is Wild World Heroes and it has an environmental message ?helping nature and wildlife to thrive. Due to the pandemic, last year? Summer Reading Challenge was online only ?so the launch of the challenge marks the first time in two years that children have been able to take part in person. This year, families will be able to visit their local library to sign up
